Whit and I traveled to South Korea to visit the Willoughby family. We left Tallahassee at 10AM July 3, 2008 and arrived in Seoul, South Korea at 5:30 PM July 4. From the airport, we took a bus and arrived at their door in Daejeon at around 11:15 PM July 4th. We were exhausted but so excited to see our friends and begin our international adventure.
This is a pagoda we saw on our trip to Daecheong lake. We hiked a trail and went down to a lake where Sara was baptized.
Sara Willoughby just before being baptized in the lake.
Sara, Silas and Nina on a bridge overlooking Daecheong lake. We had planned to take our picnic to a pagoda there but it was just too hot so we ate our lunch in the van with the AC running.
John got a motorcycle (after the scooter was stolen) and took me for a ride. Later, he taught me to drive and let me drive it around the soccer field. I was surprised at how heavy it was. Once I stopped driving, I almost let it fall on top of me. Thankfully, John was expecting that and was there to help.
We arrived too late on the 4th to have fireworks so we went out to the school's soccer field on the 5th. There were other friends there and their kids so we all did sparklers, roman candles and others. Here I'm helping Nina hold a sparkler and make shapes.
We're enjoying all the fun international food. We've eaten out quite a bit and tried lots of new things (we may or may not try dog). Here we are at a restaurant with a whole spread of 3 kinds of mondu, bimbimbap, mondu guk, dunkas, fish paste soup, pickled radish, and kimchee.
